Profit booking on a day after the Nifty conquered 20,000 brough the Nifty 50 down by 0.02% to settle at 19,993.20, while the BSE Sensex added 94.05 points to settle at 67,221.13. The broader indices were trading in the red zone. The Nifty Next 50 tumbled 2.30%, while Midcaps and Smallcaps stocks also faced sharp corrections. The sectoral indices also traded broadly in the red. Nifty Media and Realty index tanked the most with respective losses of 4.30% and 3.24%, while Metal and PSU Bank stocks also plunged over 2%. IT and Pharma stocks were the only gainers with respective gains of 1.03% and 0.12%.

The relative volatility in the market was higher and the VIX was up by 3.01%.

The other losers included Network 18 Media, Navneet Education, and Nazara Technologies, with losses of over 5% for each.

“We remain bullish on WTI crude oil prices hitting highs of $90 in the short term, but sustaining at that level would depend on China’s economic progress in Q4-FY24. OPEC+ cuts are shrinking global supply by 5% daily that would bring the market into deficit of around 1.5mbpd in the last quarter. For the day we see oil prices trading range bound with support of $85 and resistance around $89,” said Mohammed Imran, Research Analyst at Sharekhan by BNP Paribas.

“The Bank Nifty index is currently experiencing a strong bullish momentum, with buyers dominating the market and pushing the index higher. The next significant resistance level for the index is at 46,000, where a substantial amount of call writing is evident. On the downside, the key support level has shifted to 45,000, where the highest open interest built up on the put side,” said Kunal Shah, Senior Technical & Derivative analyst at LKP Securities.

“While markets have rallied for seven straight sessions, the fear of missing out (FOMO) can rule traders’ mindset as bargain hunting and value buying could be the probable theme. Technically, Nifty’s biggest support for Tuesday’s trade will be at 19,807 mark, while immediate aggressive bullish targets for the index is now seen at 20,500 mark,” said Prashanth Tapse, Senior VP (Research), Mehta Equities.
